This is the
first Romanian Atlas in the field of tumoral neuropathology. It
is intended to help pathologists, neurosurgeons, radiotherapists,
trainees in neuropathology in their current diagnostic and learning
activity. This is a basic, concise guide to the complex world

Information:
At the edge
between two millenniums, together with the amazing progress of
science, neuropathology obtains an increasingly central position
in the medical community as well as in the whole society's preoccupations.
In the world, "The Brain Decade" finishes, as a program
of intensive research of the nervous system's activity and pathology,
initiated in 1990, in the USA.
The acute
awakeness of the importance in this field, of the great invalidating
potential and human and social loss caused by the dysfunctional
cerebral activity were the reasons to start this multinational
study. The results were soon obtained. A lot of data regarding
genetic pathology, molecular biology of the structural and functional
alterations of the brain accumulated, generating guiding marks
in present and future therapy. Surgical pathology has, here, a
remarkable impact. The frequency of brain tumors is, in a lot
of countries, continuously increasing, for rather obscure reasons.
That justifies the need for etiologic and pathogenic clear up
and also for a diagnostic and therapeutic agreement.
In Romania,
the efforts to establish praxis guides in tumoral neuropathology
aren't new. Yet, in 1978, a neurosurgeon - C. Arseni, and a neuropathologist
- N. Carp, collaborated on a textbook of neuropathology: "The
anatomic pathology of the tumors of the nervous system".
This atlas
in intended to be a practical, concise and rich illustrated guide,
dedicated to pathologists, mainly. Neurosurgeons, also, will find
here many interesting points, by updating the data of microscopic
images of the tumoral processes which constitute their current
concern, but also by the few therapy and prognosis elements briefly
summarized. Oncotherapists, trainees in neuropathology, and many
other physicians will find interest points in this book.
